|Yap, Federated States of Micronesia|
Unless you are a diver, chances are you’ve never heard of this gem in the South Pacific. Yap is part of the Federated States of Micronesia along with islands states of Chuuk, Pohnpei and Kosrae and is one of the most remote places on earth. Yap is home to the world’s first government-backed manta ray and big animal sanctuary. Whether you’re looking for world-class macro photography opportunities or second-to-none manta ray dives, this is a can’t miss place. We first visited Yap on an expedition cruise in 2015 and fell in love with the people and the diving.
Where to Stay
Cruise ships also make calls to Yap, but they are few and very specialized such as the Silver Discoverer. Ask us about our 2015 cruise on her!
Liveaboard accommodations may also be possible when visiting Yap.
Primarily you’ll stay in a resort on this small island. We’ve personally visited Manta Ray Bay Resort.
Sites We’ve Dived
Stammtisch. A German word describing the pub table you meet your friends at, this dive site is a fabulous cleaning table for manta rays. We had a limited time in Yap for our first visit and split it with the cultural dances. The manta rays are not to be missed if you go.
